Combat Trauma and Addiction

National Association for Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors (NAADAC) Webinars

Addiction and combat-related post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) often go hand-in-hand, with estimates that 35-75% of veterans with PTSD abuse drugs and alcohol. Three symptoms sets of re-experiencing, numbing and avoidance and hyper-vigilance characterize the disorder and make it difficult for the individual to adjust back to civilian life. Understanding the major issues faced by veterans is important for providing addiction and mental health services. The impact on veterans, PTSD, addictions and treatment/interventions will be discussed in detail during this webinar.
